Before applying
Confirm 5+ years of permanent residence in Latvia
Prepare proof of a legal source of income
Get a criminal record certificate from your country (under 6 months old, with Latvian translation)
Check whether you can keep your current citizenship (EU, EFTA, NATO, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand …)
Study the Constitution, history and culture, and learn the anthem by heart
Application and tests
Pay the €28.46 state fee (reduced €4.27)
Submit the naturalisation application to PMLP
Pass the Latvian language test
Pass the knowledge test (Constitution, anthem, history and culture)
After the tests
Give the pledge of loyalty to the Republic of Latvia
Hand in proof of renouncing your current citizenship (if dual citizenship is not allowed)

Receive the Cabinet of Ministers' decision
Apply for a Latvian passport or ID card within one month
