Before applying
Hold a valid C settlement permit
Confirm 10+ years in Switzerland (3 of the last 5)
Live 2+ years in the same Zurich municipality
Register in the Swiss civil-status register and get an extract (max. 6 months old)
Get proof of German: B1 spoken, A2 written (fide, telc, Goethe, ÖSD or KDE)
Confirm no social assistance (3 years) and no unpaid debt-collection entries (5 years)
Confirm no relevant criminal record or pending proceedings
Pass the Grundkenntnistest (unless exempt; some municipalities test after you apply)
Application
Submit the application online to the cantonal Gemeindeamt (Zürikonto login)
Pay fees: canton CHF 500 + federal CHF 100 + municipal fee
Attend the municipality's naturalisation interview (if invited)
Do not move until your municipality has finished its review (under 25: may move within the canton)
After naturalisation
Receive Swiss citizenship with the canton's final decision
Check with your other country whether you keep its nationality
