Before applying
Confirm 10 years' lawful residence (5 settled) or a 6-year route
Get proof of B1 German (B2 for one 6-year route)
Prepare proof of secure income (36-month average from the last 6 years)
Confirm no criminal record or serious administrative offences
Study "Mein Österreich" and your Land's history material
Application
Apply in person at your Land government
Pay federal fees (€163 application + €1,126/€1,448 grant) and the Land fee
Pass the Staatsbürgerschaftsprüfung (unless exempt)
After the Zusicherung, give up your previous citizenship within 2 years
After approval
Take the oath of allegiance (Gelöbnis)
Receive the Verleihungsbescheid (grant decision)
Apply for an Austrian passport or ID card
